What is laser hair removal?

Our laser hair removal service in Toronto and GTA is a cosmetic procedure which permanently removes unwanted facial and body hair. It’s incredibly safe and treatment only causes mild to moderate discomfort. The laser selectively targets the hair follicle without causing any damage to the surrounding skin. Laser hair treatment affects the hair that in the active stage of its growth cycle, which is why multiple sessions are required for optimal results. We treat women and men of all skin tones and hair types, eliminating unwanted hair quickly, painlessly, and permanently.

How does laser hair removal work?

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles. It pulses for a fraction of a second and vaporizes the pigment, disabling numerous follicles to eliminate or significantly impede hair growth.

Permanent Hair Removal with Soprano XL Laser

Soprano® XL uses pulses of infrared diode laser energy to gradually heat the hair follicles in the subdermal layer of skin until eventually, the hair can no longer grow. With the combination of Single-Shot and IN-Motion™ technology as well as a patented Dual Chill™ treatment tip, the surface of your skin remains cool throughout the procedure. The diode laser Soprano® XL might be safely and successfully used on all skin types from I to VI (from white to black skin). And most importantly, it is painless unlike older generations of lasers, IPL machines or electrolysis. Most of our customers even find it pleasant.

Preparing for laser hair removal

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning and using sunless tanners for at least a month to prepare for hair removal sessions. The skin should be as light as possible at the time of treatment. For this reason, many people choose to undergo laser treatment during winter.
  • Refrain from plucking or waxing your skin. Shaving is fine, but these other hair removal techniques can reduce the effectiveness of the laser treatment. Also, the hair should not be bleached.
  • Shave the area that will be treated, as instructed during the pre-treatment consultation. This is usually a day or two before the appointment. The hair follicles should be visible.
  • Do not use skin care products on the area to be treated. This includes moisturizers, oils, makeup, perfumes, deodorant, antiperspirant, or powder, depending on the area being treated. If you use any kind of topical medication on your skin, be sure to notify our aesthetician when scheduling your appointment. During your first consultation our specialist will explain how does laser hair removal work and suggest best treatment based on your needs.

What to expect during the treatment?

Just before the procedure, your hair that will be undergoing treatment will be trimmed to a few millimetres above the skin surface. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated as well as your skin color. Depending on the type of laser or light source used, you and the technician will need to wear appropriate eye protection. It will also be necessary to protect the outer layers of your skin with a cold gel or special cooling device. This will help the laser light penetrate the skin. Next, the technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for bad reactions. When the procedure is completed, you may schedule your next treatment six weeks later. You’ll get treatments until hair growing stops.

Hair removal via laser can cause temporary irritation. You may also notice slight redness and swelling at the treated area. Still, these effects are minor. They are often the same effects you might notice after other types of hair removal, such as waxing.

How many treatments are required?

We typically recommend a series of 6 treatments every 6 weeks for new patients. Due to the normal hair growth cycle, touchup sessions may be needed to ensure all unwanted hair is successfully removed. Shop laser hair removal in our online store.

Is it painful?

Soprano XL represents the golden standard of laser hair removal. The unique technique In Motion minimizes discomfort, irritation during the treatment and makes hair removal faster and virtually Pain-free.

Frequently Asked Questions

Laser hair removal is widely considered a safe and effective method for reducing unwanted hair over the long term. When performed by certified professionals using the appropriate technology, it not only minimizes hair growth but also can lead to smoother skin and reduce the incidence of ingrown hairs, which are common with other hair removal methods like shaving or waxing. It’s important to consult with a healthcare provider or a laser treatment specialist to discuss any specific health concerns or skin conditions you might have to ensure laser hair removal is a healthy option for you.

Laser hair removal offers a long-term reduction in hair growth, making it one of the most effective methods available. While it may not permanently eliminate every single hair follicle, many individuals experience a significant and permanent reduction in the amount and thickness of hair in the treated areas. Some hairs can regrow, typically lighter and finer in texture, and occasional maintenance treatments might be necessary to keep the area smooth. The effectiveness of laser hair removal can vary based on factors such as hair color, skin type, and the specific laser technology used.

The cost of laser hair removal in Toronto can vary widely depending on several factors, including the size of the area being treated, the number of sessions required, the clinic’s location, and the type of laser technology used. On average, smaller areas like the upper lip or chin may cost between CAD $50 to $150 per session, while larger areas such as the back or full legs can range from CAD $250 to $500 per session. Most individuals require multiple sessions to achieve optimal results, typically between 5 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Many clinics offer package deals or discounts for purchasing multiple sessions upfront. It’s recommended to consult with several reputable clinics to get detailed quotes based on your specific needs.

The experience of pain during laser hair removal can vary greatly from person to person, depending on individual pain tolerance, the area being treated, and the specific laser technology used. Many people describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin, which can be momentarily uncomfortable but is generally not considered highly painful. Advances in laser technology have also introduced cooling mechanisms in many devices, which help to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Additionally, topical numbing creams can be applied to the skin prior to treatment to further reduce any potential pain. Most clients find the discomfort manageable and well worth the benefits of the treatment.

Selecting the top laser hair removal clinic in Toronto involves:

  1. Certifications: Opt for clinics with certified, experienced professionals.
  2. Advanced Technology: Ensure they use the latest, FDA-approved lasers suitable for your skin and hair type.
  3. Consultation: A reputable laser clinic offers consultations to tailor treatments to your needs.
  4. Reviews: Research client feedback for insights into service quality and results.
  5. Safety and Cleanliness: High standards of hygiene and safety protocols are essential.
  6. Transparent Pricing: Look for clear, upfront laser hair removal pricing without hidden costs.
  7. Personal Comfort: Choose a laser clinic where you feel comfortable and heard.

Laser hair removal offers lasting smoothness, unlike the temporary effects of shaving or the pain and regular upkeep required by waxing. It reduces hair growth and ingrown hairs, potentially leading to permanent hair reduction. Over time, it can also be more cost-effective than the ongoing expenses of shaving and waxing. The choice between laser hair removal, shaving, or waxing depends on personal preferences, including pain tolerance and budget.

Fortunately, you can start laser treatments at any age as long as your parents agree. However, most dermatologists recommend that female patients wait until they start their menstrual cycle before beginning laser treatment. For some, this may start at age 10 or even age 16.
