Fall Skin Care Tips

The best part of summer is spending it outside on the beach, at barbecues and in the pool. Unfortunately, as the days grow shorter, the temperatures drop, and the air becomes drier, your skin may lose precious moisture and elasticity. Sun, chlorine, and saltwater may have taken a toll on your skin throughout the summer, so fall is a time to exfoliate and moisturize.

There are a few rules for your fall skin care routine, they are all important and effective.

Start with the diet

Sun radiation can cause collagen to break down even at a higher rate than normal aging. Collagen is the glue-like substance that supports and connects tissues and is responsible for firmness, elasticity and protections. The sun damages collagen promoting early aging.

Diets high in essential fatty acids (cold water fish like salmon and flax seed) will repair cells and protect from further damage while diets high in antioxidants (whole grains, veggies, fruits and nuts) will repair and protect your skin.

Don’t skimp on sunscreen

Sun protection is essential for skin care. Even though your beach-bumming days are numbered, don’t slack on vigilant sun protection, no matter your natural skin tone. As humidity levels drop, your skin isn’t able to absorb as much moisture from the air. So, switch out your sheer sunscreens for formulas that contain moisturizing ingredients, as well as UV-blockers. To protect the deeper skin layers vulnerable to photo-aging, you need a product like Ekseption All-Day Shield – a new generation of protection day cream with ferulic acid, vitamin E and helioguard-365 in your skincare regimen.
And don’t forget lip balms! They are great for avoiding chapped lips and for fighting the effect of cold weather on your lips.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your face and body is rule number one. Scrubs and peeling products are here to help us getting rid of dead cells, and to prepare your skin for other treatments. Make sure that you don’t choose overly aggressive treatments, because those might cause lesions and rashes.
Slip right into your smooth skin for fall with professional Ekseption skin peel treatments at VS MedSpa. Ekseption peels is a breakthrough concept in the world of rejuvenation and restoration, our peels exfoliate, renew, treat and moisturize with a synergy of selected acids and active ingredients. Results are achieved by combining a series of in-clinic treatments with home care products.

Switch from lotion to cream

As the air becomes drier, your skin needs a thicker moisturizer. Creams provide a stronger oily barrier, which means they both reduce water loss from the outer layer of skin and provide hydration to this layer of skin at the same time. Don’t forget to choose the moisturizer that works best for your skin type: if you have oily or combination skin, choose something that won’t make your skin produce any excess oil. Our beloved masks can also be great allies in our meticulous routine. Make sure you choose super nourishing creams for your body as well, or perhaps oils, such as almond or jojoba oil.

Treat acne correctly

Seasonal shifts trigger stress symptoms in the body, leading to even more breakouts than usual. Dead skin cells which clog pores is the reason why there is an increase of blemishes due to the drier air and harsher winds of the transitional swing from summer to winter. On the other hand, don’t give up on acne treatment just yet. As part of our skin care program we recommend our Power Pumpkin Resurfacer treatment. This light skin peel is formulated with Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Pumpkin Pulp (a derivative of retinoic acid). It vigorously increases cell turnover, helps correct pigmentation, hampers inflammation and control breakout. Book your appointment with our specialist today. We can help you with acne and acne scars!
